Job description

Who we are

Open Government Products (OGP) operates like a startup within government. We are a team of engineers, designers, and product managers who build technology for the public good. We work in small, autonomous teams to identify areas where technology can improve lives, test prototypes with users, and bring the best ones to launch. We use and release open-source software, keep a flat hierarchy, and bypass bureaucracy to deliver concrete impact to the public.

The opportunity

Today, when a citizen waits weeks for a government decision, the delay is manual work: checks, tracking or data collation done by hand. Multiply that by a hundred cases per officer, and thousands of officers in government. Launching something new is no faster. A new initiative might take months to be launched, most of that spent building the tech to operationalize it at scale.

We envision a government that can respond to the needs of citizens in days, not months. Fully operational workflows are built quickly, from existing integrated tools, not expensive custom builds. Public officers are freed up from copy-and-pasting, leaving more time for human judgment, empathy and frontline support. Automated checks run so that no case falls through the cracks, and no citizen is left in limbo.

Why this is hard (and interesting)

Thousands of variations. No two agencies work exactly the same way. We need to understand that diversity deeply enough to build useful foundations without fragmenting into custom solutions everywhere.

Thinking in systems. Agencies use different tools and technology stacks. What we build has to work across them while making workflows faster, more reliable and easier to monitor.

Encapsulating complexity. The system needs to provide orchestration, identity and auditability while remaining simple enough for public officers to understand and manage.

Responsible by design. Automation can make it tempting to check less. The system must preserve human judgment where it matters while ensuring reliability everywhere else.

What you'll own

You’ll join a lean team of 7 that owns Plumber, our Zapier-like workflow builder. It supports some critical flows today, but reaches only 2% of public officers. Connectors to common government tools, M365, Telegram, Slack and more are available out-of-the-box.

Your job is to build this into the engine most government operations eventually run on. How we get there is an open question — this is a Lead role where you’d own the vision, strategy and execution. You’ll end up knowing government workflows better than anyone, and you’ll use that to turn months of work into days.

What we're looking for

  • You understand the tech and can design systems: orchestration, identity, audit, extensibility, and the trade-offs between them. You’ve fiddled with LLMs and autonomous agents, and know how they’re changing operational work. You may be an ex-engineering lead or technical product lead.

  • You thrive on ambiguity. You can sketch out the big-picture vision and work backwards: figuring out the system we need, what we can’t afford to be wrong about, and how to test it.

  • You know how large orgs process work: the approvals, handoffs, exceptions and workarounds.

  • You measure success in how people's lives change: shorter waits, fewer forms, no one falling through the cracks. A public service that equips a small nation and its people to do exceptional things.

Working at OGP

Working for Public Good

We care about creating real impact. This means tackling problems that affect millions of Singaporeans and setting the benchmark for how government products should work.

Rapid Prototyping

Instead of long debates or mega-projects, we test ideas early and learn fast. We stay clear on outcomes, seek feedback, prototype quickly, and scale what works.

Extreme Ownership

We don’t maintain the status quo; we fix what’s broken. Everyone is empowered to take ownership and solve problems, regardless of their job title or role.

Growth Mindset

We believe everything can improve. We try new things, learn from mistakes, and re-invent what already works to make it even better. Growth here means embracing curiosity, courage, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Products we’ve built include:

  • FormSG - A form builder enabling any public officer to launch a secure form in minutes. Our goal is to replace paper forms in public services.

  • Data.gov.sg - Singapore’s national open data platform, helping individuals and organisations make better decisions by providing high-quality data for free.

  • RedeemSG - Most well known for supporting CDC voucher campaigns, RedeemSG helps public agencies to distribute user-friendly digital vouchers for varying purposes.

  • Vaccine.gov.sg - First built for Covid vaccination booking, this portal has now expanded to provide fuss-free booking for a host of vaccine options at nearby clinics, aiming to protect members of public from preventable diseases.

  • ActiveSG - Gateway for Singaporeans to book public sports facilities, register for fitness programmes, and stay active as part of a national movement toward healthier living.
