About the Partnership
Open Government Products is a team of engineers, designers, and product managers who build technology for public good. We identify problem spaces where technology can help, test prototypes with real users, then bring the best ones to launch. We are partnering with Synapxe, Singapore’s national healthtech agency, to help it expand its product-building capabilities.
Synapxe builds and runs the technology behind Singapore’s public healthcare system, from systems that hospitals and clinics rely on to platforms that citizens use to manage their health. Its systems support all 46 public healthcare institutions and around 1,400 partners, including GPs, community hospitals and nursing homes. Its work spans national platforms such as HealthHub and the National Electronic Health Record, as well as health AI, telehealth and the infrastructure supporting public healthcare.
About the Role
This is a role with Synapxe. You will be employed by Synapxe, with an initial attachment to Open Government Products (OGP). Your salary scheme and career progression will follow OGP’s framework.
As Lead Software Engineer, you will lead a team building products for Singapore’s public healthcare system and help Synapxe strengthen its ability to develop products in-house. Alongside delivering products, you will help establish the engineering standards, team structures and ownership needed to support them over time.
Your first few months will be spent attached to OGP, working alongside its HealthTech engineers, designers and product managers. You will learn how these teams understand user needs, make technical decisions, and build and run products. You will then be based at Synapxe long term, adapting these practices to its healthcare context.
At Synapxe, you will lead existing engineers and people you hire, and work with senior stakeholders across the healthcare sector. Part of the role is establishing how teams work when responsibilities and processes are still taking shape.
Responsibilities
Lead engineering delivery. Work with product managers and designers to understand user needs, decide what to build, and lead development, launch and ongoing improvement.
Set technical direction and standards. Lead architecture and integration decisions, balancing delivery speed with maintainability, reliability and security. Uphold standards for testing, observability and CI/CD so the team can run and support its products.
Remain hands-on. Contribute through coding, design reviews and helping engineers solve difficult technical problems.
Build and develop the team. Hire engineers, set clear expectations, and lead regular feedback, performance reviews and career conversations.
Resolve delivery issues with stakeholders. Work with senior stakeholders across Synapxe and the healthcare sector to explain technical trade-offs and resolve dependencies and ownership questions.
Build Synapxe’s product engineering capability. Adapt practices learned during your OGP attachment to Synapxe, helping establish team structures, product ownership and ways of making decisions.
What we are looking for
Technical depth and judgment. You have led the delivery and operation of production systems across multiple layers of the stack, and can make sound trade-offs between delivery speed, maintainability, reliability and security.
Experience leading and developing engineers. You set clear expectations, give useful feedback, help engineers grow, and address quality and performance issues directly and fairly.
Product thinking and care for users. You work with product managers and designers to understand user needs, question assumptions, and use feedback to decide what to build and improve.
The ability to lead through ambiguity. You bring people together when processes or ownership are unclear, explain technical choices to senior and non-technical stakeholders, and work through disagreements to reach decisions.
A motivation to improve healthcare in Singapore. You care about the difference your team’s products make to patients and the people delivering care.
Experience in healthcare or another regulated sector, or in building engineering capability within an existing organisation, would be an advantage.
