Job description

Who we are

Open Government Products (OGP) operates like a startup within the government; We are a fast-paced, dynamic team of engineers, designers, and product managers dedicated to public good. We autonomously identify opportunities to solve public problems using tech, rapidly prototype, and launch solutions - from citizen apps to automating public agency operations. Embracing an open-sourced and flat hierarchy, we cut through bureaucracy to focus on real-world, user-centric innovations that drive change.

About the role

We’re looking for a Manager, Operations, People Team to handle and support the streamlining and automation of our HR operations. Currently, operational and administrative work is handled by our People Partners- you’ll help to consolidate, streamline, and support the automation of this work.

This is a 1-2 year fixed-term contract role. By the end of your contract, routine HR operations should work with minimal manual intervention. This role is ideal for someone who wants to be involved in a tangible transformation project with clear before/ after outcomes and wants hands-on automation experience in a tech environment that enables rapid experimentation and improvement.

If you’re someone who enjoys creating order from ambiguity, designing better ways of working, and using data and automation to drive smarter decisions - this role is for you.

What you will do

You’ll take ownership of the processes that make OGP’s people operations run like clockwork, while keeping the human touch in everything we do.

  1. Drive HR Operations

  • Independently manage pre-employment clearance, onboarding setup & logistics, and employee lifecycle operations, amongst others.

  • Ensure data accuracy and compliance across all employee-related documentation and systems.

  • Support the delivery of key HR programs (e.g. performance management and engagement).

2. Drive Process Improvement and Automation

  • Support the improvement of efficiency through automation tools (e.g. Zapier, Google Suite, Notion), wholesale redesign of our systems, or migration to new systems.

  • Support the redesign of manual workflows into simple systems by pointing out room for improvement and significant pain points.

3. Partner on HR Initiatives and Projects

  • Work closely with the People Team to co-create and execute initiatives that improve employee experience.

  • Provide operational support for organisation-wide programs such as performance reviews and talent calibration.

4. Manage People Policies and Documentation

  • Build and maintain a well-organised knowledge base (Notion / Google Drive) of people policies, guidelines, and templates.

  • Ensure clarity and accessibility of information for all employees.

  • Support People Ops communications (e.g. HR announcements, onboarding guides, FAQs).

5. People Data Dashboard

  • Support the building, maintenance, update, and monitoring of our people data dashboard.

  • Translate data into insights that help us make evidence-based decisions about hiring, performance, and culture.

  • Support People Partners and leaders to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

You’re the Right Person If You

  • Have 3–6 years of HR operations or people analytics experience, ideally in a tech or startup-like environment.

  • Are detail-oriented with strong process design skills.

  • Are someone who spots inefficiencies and wants to improve them.

  • Communicate clearly and in a timely manner to stakeholders.

  • Are comfortable working with data and translating it into insights.

  • Are energised by high-impact opportunities rather than long-term role stability.

  • Are comfortable with autonomy, end-to-end ownership, and some ambiguity.

We’d love if you have (but if you don’t, we’ll be happy to support your development)

  • Familiarity with automation tools (Zapier, Make, or equivalent).

  • Exposure to HR systems (e.g. BambooHR, Notion, GSuite workflows).

  • Experience building dashboards using tools like Google Data Studio, Looker, or Tableau.

  • Interest in people analytics, employee experience design, or organisational effectiveness.
