Job description

Who we are

Open Government Products operates like a startup within the Singapore government; We are a fast-paced, dynamic team of engineers, designers, and product managers dedicated to public good. We autonomously identify opportunities to solve public problems using tech, rapidly prototype, and launch solutions—from citizen apps to automating public agency operations. Embracing an open-sourced and flat hierarchy, we cut through bureaucracy to focus on real-world, user-centric innovations that drive change.

Our work

You will work on meaningful projects that solve problems pertinent to our society, from transportation, to education, to healthcare. The public sector is full of opportunities where even the simplest software can have a big impact on people’s lives. You will have direct ownership of your work with over 70% of our projects starting as ground up initiatives. Rather than working on commercial ventures commonly found in the startup scene, we're here to improve how we live as a society through what we can offer as a government. Projects we have worked on include:

ScamShield – An app that automatically filters scam messages from unknown contacts by running it through ScamShield’s on-device classifier and filter calls from numbers used in illegal activities. Users can also report scammers that may have slipped through.

Parking.sg – A mobile app alternative to parking coupons. It lets users pay, extend, and refund their parking sessions just using their phones.

FormSG – A form builder tool for agencies to self-service and create online forms that capture classified data, with the goal of replacing paper forms.

Isomer – Isomer provides government agencies with an easy-to-deploy static website building and hosting service to create usable, secure and faster informational websites quickly.

An overview of all our other products can be found on our website.

About the role

You will be joining as a Product Operations Specialist, primarily managing the operations efforts for DistributeSG (e.g. User support, propagation, operations) and supporting the propagation of RedeemSG. You will also assist in supplementing day-to-day user operations of RedeemSG and other payment products as needed.

The Team

You will be joining the Redeem team which operates in the financial and distribution space, specifically targeting government and agency distribution to citizens. Our key product is RedeemSG, which enables agencies to distribute vouchers to citizens and enables merchants to receive payouts promptly in an auditable process. We also develop and help to enable distribution of items via another platform called DistributeSG.

What will you do?

  • Identify and independently support the onboarding and integration of new agencies onto both RedeemSG and DistributeSG.

  • Respond to general user support queries and troubleshoot technical issues with our products and provide solutions.

  • Identify and independently execute on priorities and initiatives to maximise product impact to public good and develop operational processes to overcome constraints.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally and contribute to the direction and development of the product through user feedback and analysis.

Who we’re looking for

  • Communicates and works effectively across a range of internal and external stakeholders, covering cross-functional team members, government agencies and members of the public.

  • Able to quickly grasp technical concepts and understand various relevant systems. Knowledge of technical concepts such as APIs and HTTP response codes are a bonus.

  • Explains technical concepts and our products to various audiences with ease.

  • Can empathise with users, distill user data and problem-solve independently based on the context.

  • Exhibits strong operational skills with a proven ability to onboard users to products efficiently, particularly in fast-paced environments.

  • A passion for public service, driving impactful changes, and improving how technology serves society.

What it's like working here

  • Rapid Prototyping - Instead of spending too much time debating ideas, we prefer testing them. This identifies potential problems quickly, and more importantly, conveys what is possible to others easily.

  • Ownership - In addition to technical responsibilities, this means having opinions on what is being done and having ideas on what should be done next. Building something that you believe in is the best way to build something good.

  • Continuous Learning - Working on new ideas often means not fully understanding what you are working on. Taking time to learn new architectures, frameworks, technologies, and even languages is not just encouraged but essential.

  • Open Communication - As an organisation, we are continuously growing and trying to improve the way we work. We maintain a culture where everyone’s voice can be heard. We regularly review our policies so that we can create a healthy and inclusive working environment for individuals of all backgrounds.
