Job description

Who we are

Open Government Products (OGP) is an experimental tech start-up team within government that consists mainly of engineers, designers, and product managers who build technology for the public good. We proactively identify areas where technology can help, test our prototypes with actual users, and bring our best ones to launch. As an experimental team, we have redesigned our organisation to move quickly, fail fast, and scale what works to deliver the maximum public good within a larger bureaucracy. We think about how we run the organisation from first principles, keep a flat hierarchy to maximise ownership, and bypass bureaucracy to focus on delivery of good products through a good organisation. We work on real problems, build for the user, and push for change.

What does a Senior Product Designer do?

We have over 40 products, with each team typically made up of 1 Product Manager, 1 Designer, and 2 to 4 Engineers. As a Senior Product Designer, you will own the end to end experience of your product, from vision to execution.

On a day to day basis, this means:

  • Engaging with citizens and public officers to deeply understand their needs and motivations

  • Facilitating cross-domain and cross-functional collaboration to align goals and guide decisions

  • Driving problem exploration, solution discovery, and delivery across teams

  • Working autonomously and navigating complexity with confidence

  • Defending design decisions and securing buy-in from both internal and external stakeholders

You will work on meaningful projects that solve problems pertinent to our society, from transportation, to education, to healthcare. The public sector is full of opportunities where even the simplest software can have a big impact on people’s lives. You will have direct ownership of your work with over 70% of our projects starting as ground up initiatives. Rather than work on commercial ventures commonly found in the startup scene, we're here to improve how we live as a society through what we can offer as a government.

We look for people who

Design with impact — You have extensive experience shipping products and experiences, whether through work or personal projects.

Show strong design sense and judgment — Your portfolio demonstrates thoughtful work, and you can clearly explain the decisions behind it.

Are fluent with modern tools — We mainly use Figma, with some using Cursor. You should be comfortable learning and adopting new tools to deliver your best work.

Communicate across disciplines — You engage across disciplines, clearly communicate your designs, and influence others, including policymakers.

Take initiative — You don’t wait for instructions; you push for change, challenge the status quo, and make things happen.

Care about the public good — You believe in serving people above politics, and you’re willing to stand up when something isn’t in the public interest.

Overall we look for people who have ability, initiative, good communication, and an interest in public good.

Working at OGP

Ownership and Autonomy — Beyond technical tasks, this means having autonomy to voice opinions and suggest future directions. Building what you believe in drives the creation of great solutions.

Rapid Prototyping — We prioritise testing ideas over debating them, allowing us to identify problems quickly and convey possibilities to others. This fail-fast approach accelerates innovation.

Flexibility — We provide flexible work arrangements based on what works best for our team and its members, fostering a productive and supportive environment.

Continuous Learning — Drive professional growth by exploring new architectures, frameworks, and technologies. With dedicated yearly learning months and hackathons, continuous learning is essential as we tackle innovative ideas and challenges.

Mission-Driven — Our work is dedicated to the public good, aiming to improve the lives of Singapore citizens. We focus on creating impactful solutions that enhance the community and the place we call home.

Projects OGP has worked on include:

ActiveSG — ActiveSG is a platform for the public to book sports facilities, join fitness programmes, and access gym and swimming facilities.

Armoury — Armoury replaces paper checklists with digital ones to increase submission transparency, reduce operational and manpower costs, and surface actionable insights for agencies.

Care360 — Care360 is a patient management system that helps Medical Social Workers manage their patients' financial and psychosocial care.

Data.gov.sg Data.gov.sg is Singapore’s open data sharing platform. We work with government agencies to make their data discoverable, understandable, and usable.

Maps — Maps is a free self-service platform for government agencies to share location information to citizens easily.

Pair — Pair is an AI assistant that helps government officers work more efficiently, with the use of advanced language technology.

RedeemSG — RedeemSG is a digital voucher system for creating and managing vouchers for citizens and merchants.

ScamShield — The ScamShield mobile app lets people check suspicious calls and messages, and report scams to the authorities.

Scribe — Scribe is a transcription and summarisation tool that transforms conversations into structured summaries.

With over 40 products in different phases, report cards are our way of sharing what we do transparently. We're as open about our wins as we are our areas for improvement. Explore all products
