Job description

Who We Are

Open Government Products (OGP) is an experimental technology team within the Singapore Government. We build technology for public good — creating products that directly improve the lives of millions of people in Singapore.

We operate with the speed and autonomy of a startup, while working on problems with national scale and impact. Our teams are made up of engineers, designers, product managers, and operators who identify real public problems, rapidly prototype solutions, and bring them into production.

Our products span citizen-facing services and critical internal government systems. We work in small, empowered teams with high ownership, minimal bureaucracy, and a strong open-source and engineering culture.

The Team

You will join a product team building payment products that make it easier for government agencies, businesses, and citizens to send, receive, and manage payments.

The team is currently responsible for the following:

  • RedeemSG - A digital voucher system for creating and managing vouchers for citizens and merchants. Best known for the CDC Voucher Scheme and NEA Climate Vouchers.

  • DistributeSG - Enabling government agencies and non-profit organisations create, track, and manage their own item distribution campaigns (Non-Monetary, In-Kind)

  • PaySG - A Whole-of-Government trusted platform that makes it easy for Singapore government agencies to accept online payments from individuals and businesses.

We’re also exploring other ways and experimenting ideas in which we improve our fiscal or monetary transfer infrastructures for Singapore as a whole.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you will be designing, architecting and building secure, highly reliable and scalable systems that operate on a national scale.

You will work across the stack, from frontend user experiences to backend services to infrastructure. You will help shape architecture, engineering standards and long term technical direction of critical national infrastructures.

Additional qualities for Senior Engineers:

  • Experience in developing large or technically complex projects with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to make sound architectural and technical tradeoff decisions.

  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising engineering quality within teams.

  • Dive deep into problem areas and identify high-leverage projects to undertake.

  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills to anchor stakeholder collaborations.

  • Track record in improving platform scalability, resilience yet maintaining operational excellence and security.

What We’re Looking For

We value engineers who:

  • Care deeply about building reliable, secure, and user-centric software.

  • Thrive in fast-moving, high-ownership environments.

  • Balance pragmatism with strong engineering fundamentals.

  • Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across disciplines.

  • Are motivated by meaningful public impact.

Technical skills and experience

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building critical production systems.

  • Experience with modern web and cloud technologies such as TypeScript, React and Cloud-native infrastructures.

  • Familiarity with secure software development practices, including IaC, observability and CI/CD.

  • Experience in debugging real-world reliability issues and managing high traffic production system.

  • Able to effectively use AI to accelerate your development yet able to showcase that you have sufficient control over the output and outcomes.

  • Prior experiences within the payments ecosystem and some prior Java cloud fundamentals will be good to have.

Don't hesitate to apply, even if you don't meet every qualification. If your background is a better fit for another engineering team at OGP, we may reach out to discuss those opportunities as part of the hiring process.

Why Join OGP?

Work on problems that matter

Your work will directly impact how millions of Singaporeans interact with government services and stay protected from scams and digital threats.

Build with real ownership

Engineers at OGP own products end-to-end — from ideation and architecture to deployment and operations. You’ll have significant influence over technical decisions and product direction.

Solve meaningful technical challenges

Our systems require strong engineering across security, reliability, scalability, identity, messaging infrastructure, and developer tooling.

Move fast with strong teams

We keep teams lean and highly empowered. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, designers, and product builders who care deeply about craft and impact.

Grow continuously

We invest heavily in learning through hackathons, dedicated learning time, open-source contributions, and opportunities to explore new technologies and architectures.

Flexible hybrid work

We care more about outcomes than office presence, and support flexible hybrid work arrangements that work for both the team and individuals.

Projects OGP has worked on include:

ScamShield — ScamShield helps users detect, filter, and report scam calls and messages using AI-powered detection systems and reporting workflows that support law enforcement investigations.
